Is Christmas Just for Christians Is Christmas Just for Christians? This time of year always brings discussion about atheists and other non-Christians celebrating at "Christmas" time. Should we or shouldn't we? Some argue that it is hypocritical for us to celebrate in any manner, that we are validating Christian beliefs by our participation. I disagree.  Throughout the history of humanity, celebrations have taken place at the dark and cold time of the year. Christians are only the most recent group to find something to celebrate in late December and all the so-called Christmas traditions are borrowed from previous revelers. In every culture, by any calendar, whether the purpose was to honor the earth, the stars, a deity, or event, humans have found something to celebrate. The fact is -- HUMANS LIKE TO CELEBRATE!  I believe that through the continuing rapid growth in world communications and new scientific discoveries about the universe and life, religious dogma will die out and what will remain will be the rich human traditlons that have been passed down. Christmas will be just one of many celebrations whose origins have been abandoned and forgotten. Already, places like Tokyo, Japan go all out to participate because Christmas is an "American" tradition; it has no religious significance to them. How many people do you know who claim to be Christians actually have any religious aspect to their celebration?  One important way to create continuity and unity within families and communities is to develop traditions and celebrations where we all share the same activities and practices and pass them on to our children and neighbors. In the United States, July 4th is a good example of nearly everyone sharing the same celebratlon regardless of their heritage. It brings us all together. Many non-Christians, especially recent immigrants, participate in "Christmas" because they see it as an American holiday, not a religious one. Participating is a way to establish common ground with others.  My family celebrates at "Christmas" time: but we obviously do not celebrate the birth of a deity. We believe it is important to have a special occasion to celebrate our family and friends, and to appreciate the wonders of our world. How often do you stop in your normal day to do this? We include many old family traditions and mix them with new festivities that are special to us. Each year's end brings joyful and warm memories of the past. I choose not to give this up just because one segment of our society has attempted to usurp the season for themselves.  Of course, this kind of celebration doesn't have to be in late December, you can establish your own traditions at any time of year. Maybe it's my long human ancestry that makes year's end feel so right for me. No matter what you call it, no matter what you do or how you do it, this is a great time of year for a celebration!

Christmas- is it Christian or Pagan? Jeremiah 10:2-4 Thus saith the LORD, Learn not the way of the heathen, and be not dismayed at the signs of heaven; for the heathen are dismayed at them. For the customs of the people are vain: for one cutteth a tree out of the forest, the work of the hands of the workman, with the ax. They deck it with silver and with gold; they fasten it with nails and with hammers, that it move not. This one will most certainly draw a lot of fire from fellow believers. However, the truth must be told!!! First, I must say that, NO, I am not a Jehovah's Witness. If you want to attach a denomination to me it would be Baptist. However, I am just a child of the King, Jesus Christ. The Christmas celebration as we know it today, is clearly pagan in origin, that is it has Satan's prints all over it. When researching it anyone can see it is clearly not a Christian holiday. What bothers me is so many preachers know what it is and still do nothing about it. They stand in the pulpit year after year and do not tell the "flock", that it is one of the pagans most sacred days. Why is this? Do these men of God not know about it? The reason is the "flock" would not accept it and would run the preacher off!! They will let the "flock" drown in sin at risk of loosing their pay check and position. It boils down to no GUTS!! I get mail daily from pagans and once in awhile they will slip in the fact that the church celebrates their holiday, and they are correct!!! Its time for Gods people to get some backbone and stop the non-sense. We best do something or God will. Some will argue that as long as one knows that its is Jesus that we celebrate, it is ok. How wrong that thinking is. We see in the old testament time and time again, that when Gods people incorporated paganism in worship, God brought judgment to the nation. It is no different today. The Roman Catholic church in is desire to convert the heathen, mingled the ways of the pagan's (witchcraft), into the church. Easter is another one that has paganism mingled with Jesus. Below are links to sites with well researched info. I am not the author of these pages, but agree that Christmas as it is, should not be in the church or a born again Christians life. I am not the author of these pages, but agree that Christmas as it is, should not be in the church or a born again Christians life. Here is a ruling by a judge. He says there is more secular purpose to Christmas then religious. What a shame..
